What if I’m just lazy? | ADHD Alien on Twitter

I totally get this. Even as you’re realizing you’re in an untenable situation, you may need to ask for help or pursue a diagnosis, there’s still a nagging voice: what if I’m wrong? What if I go through all this and make myself vulnerable, only to learn there’s nothing wrong with me and I’m just lazy?

In one study, researchers found that when subjects were told to sit in a room and do nothing, they chose to give themselves electric shocks rather than pass the time in silence.

Humans are interesting creatures. I have to wonder: would we ADHDers be among the first to start self-administering those shocks?

I’m curious: how many of you are hitting a wall with “quarantine fatigue?”

I am and I’m not. There are in-person traditions I’m starting to miss. Reality is setting in that things I take for granted every year may not happen this time around. But I also haven’t gotten to a lot of those “high-utility” quarantine activities mentioned in this article. In some ways I’m just now getting my bearings enough to embark on those “extra” projects. If I take longer to get around to them, maybe I’ll take longer to run out 🤣

6 things I do to help my ADHD time blindness

A commenter on a previous post about time blindness asked, “Okay, now what do we do about it?”

Good question! Whether we like it or not, most of us have to live on the real world’s timetable. I don’t have all the answers, but I do know what works for me. Here’s a collection of strategies I use to keep track of time in both a practical and emotional sense.

The ADHD Good Life Podcast with Sandra Coral

I discovered Sandra on Instagram a while ago and immediately felt drawn to her stories. She talks to her followers like her personal friends and shares honestly about her ADHD journey. However, I’m not so good with Instagram stories. I often forget to watch them, or don’t have time right then, but they disappear after 24 hours. If I miss them, I miss them forever.

I was really stoked to see Sandra start a podcast and immediately queued up the first episode while I prepped dinner yesterday morning. It felt just like her Instagram stories: honest and intimate, unvarnished but also both hopeful and pragmatic. I look forward to whatever she has in store for us.
